Introduction to Theatre Design

Unleash your inner designer and explore the basics of stage and film design.

Find out what makes a professional theatre designer, using the resources at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, looking at stage design, costume, lighting and sound for both live and recorded performance.

As part of your time with Central, you will also be attending a theatre performance or tour. Back at Central, you'll continue working to understand how to design performance spaces, using your trip for inspiration as you craft a remarkable model box by the end of the week, ready for the open exhibition for invited friends and family.

You will be led by a professional performance designer who regularly works for film, theatre and TV.

Please note that on the day of seeing Hamilton there will be a later finish and, unless your parents or guardians have provided permission n for you to travel back independently, all young people will be chaperoned back to Central.

To attend this course, first priority will be given to students who meet any of the following criteria (please indicate on your application if you are eligible): neither parent attended university, you are or have been in the care of the local authority, you are a young carer, you have a disability, you are eligible for free school meals.
